Care Instructions

Your ARTSN handcrafted charred timber or natural wood grain cutting board is designed to be both beautiful and durable. With proper care, it will serve you well for years to come. Follow these simple care instructions to keep your board in top condition.

1. Hand Wash Only

  • Always wash your board by hand with warm water and mild soap.
  • Avoid soaking your board or placing it in the dishwasher, as this can damage the wood and compromise its longevity.

2. Dry Immediately

  • After washing, wipe the board dry with a clean towel and allow it to air dry upright. This helps prevent water from soaking into the wood and causing warping or cracking.

3. Oil Regularly

  • To maintain the beauty and durability of your board, apply Food-Grade Mineral Oil or Beeswax once every 3-4 weeks, or when the board starts to look dry.
  • Use a clean, soft cloth or paper towel to rub the oil into the surface, covering all sides of the board. Allow the oil to soak in for a few hours (or overnight) before wiping off any excess.

4. Avoid Extreme Temperatures

  • Keep your board away from direct heat sources, like stove tops or ovens, and avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
  • Extreme heat can cause the wood to dry out and crack.

5. Proper Storage

  • Store your cutting board in a dry area, ideally upright or flat. If you store it flat, ensure it’s completely dry to avoid moisture buildup beneath the board.

6. Sanding (If Necessary)

  • Over time, your board may develop knife marks or scratches. You can lightly sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper (220-grit) to smooth it out.
  • After sanding, reapply Food-Grade Mineral Oil or Beeswax to restore the wood’s protective layer.

7. Charred Timber Boards

  • For charred timber boards, the surface is naturally more resistant to water and bacteria. However, follow the same care instructions to ensure the board remains in excellent condition.
